Feel Better by Supporting Your Body’s Detox Systems

Eat a Nutrient-Dense Diet
This may sound simple but you can’t overlook it – your body’s detox pathways HEAVILY rely on nutrients to support their various processes. B vitamins, glutathione (an antioxidant), amino acids, minerals, and plant nutrients all help process toxins out of your body. This means eating a variety of whole vegetables and fruits and pasture-raised meats and eggs.
Stay Hydrated
Your cells depend on water to move nutrients in and out of them. And once your body packages up toxins for elimination, they must become water-soluble before it can flush them out. Our kidneys, intestines, and skin do the major work of releasing toxins. Water carries those toxins out through our urine, stool, and sweat. So drink up!
Eat Healthy Fats
If your body doesn’t process toxins properly, they remain in a fat-soluble form, which means they get stored in your fat. The same thing happens in the animals we eat. That’s why it’s important to eat organic, pasture-raised animals as much as possible — otherwise you might end up eating toxins that have accumulated in their fat. And keep in mind, your body needs fat to produce bile, a major factor in detox. So make sure you eat healthy fats such as pasture-raised animals, eggs and fish, avocados, nuts, and organic or raw dairy.
Manage Your Stress
Stress worsens detox issues. Stress keeps you in the fight-or-flight state, which disrupts hormones and cellular processes in the body. This fight-or-flight state can disrupt the enzyme production your body needs for digestion and detox, deplete antioxidant levels, and trigger chronic inflammation — all of which impair detox. So find ways to manage your stress levels and build those methods into your daily routine.
Get Your Sleep
Sleep gives your body essential time to shuttle waste out. During sleep, your body isn’t processing incoming nutrients or glucose, so it can catch up on detoxification instead. It packages up waste from your body systems and your brain to prepare it for elimination through urine, bowel movements, or sweat. So prioritize your sleep routine — turn off overhead lights and put down your phone an hour before bedtime, and aim for at least 8 hours a night.
